“My interest for past cultures led me to create the Nostalgia series with the intent to showcase antique objects that bring back memories and invite the viewer to think about times when things were done in a different manner”.

Luiza Maia is a Brazilian artist currently based in San Francisco. The artist’s taste for aesthetics dates back to her background as a fashion and costume designer in Rio de Janeiro. She found her passion for painting when studying in New York City in 2017, at the School of Visual Arts and The Art Students League of New York, then moved to California the following year for the master program.

Luiza has done private commissions and exhibited in group shows at San
Francisco galleries, such as: San Francisco Women Artists, Studio Gallery, Arc
Gallery & Studios, and at the Academy of Art Annual Spring Show. She has
been featured in three issues of Vanity Fair UK, as well as in Southwest Art
magazine, as a candidate in the Artistic Excellence competition in 2020.
