NXTUP Nominee: Best Documentary

Hava Turner

Motion Pictures & Television / BFA

Hava Turner is a senior at Academy of Art University studying motion pictures and television with an emphasis on directing. She was born and raised in Saint Louis, Missouri where her love of film started at a young age. Hava believes that film is the best way to communicate and display emotions, problems, thoughts, etc that are harder to express in words. The artform is her way of receiving and giving opportunities for personal and societal growth, through escapism.

Over the past four years, Hava has expanded her knowledge in the field and worked to perfect her craft, where she is motivated by bringing unexpected experiences to audiences through unique and uncharted approaches. She has directed various films, including a NXT UP Fest best documentary nominated documentary and ArtU's first virtual reality short film. In addition to her work experience, she has worked as a production assistant on Warner Entertainment’s Matrix 4.

Hava believes her ability to work hard and unwavering dedication to any task put in front of her stems from being involved with competitive athletics since age six. To this day, she continues to compete as a collegiate track athlete. She has received an All-Academic award, which includes maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher while competing on a national level. Her colleagues see her as dedicated, detail-oriented and exceptional at multitasking.

She is currently working to expand her knowledge of the industry and taking on roles that will allow her to hone her directing skills. Eventually she plans to put her mark on the suspense and psychological horror genre, a dream she’s had since a very young age.
