YeSeul Ju
My name is YeSeul Ju and I am a fashion and couture designer who was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea.
Currently, I'm pursuing a bachelor's in fashion design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, USA. I graduated with a Diploma in Fashion & Retail Design at Limkokwing University in Malaysia and completed a stylist course at F1 Stylist Academy in South Korea.
My thesis collection is 'smile mask syndrome'. It is a kind of psychological anxiety disorder that results in depression and physical illness as a result of unnatural smiles. It is commonly found in service jobs like restaurant waitress, stewardess, or celebrities.
I'm focusing on smile mask syndrome as a mood and concept and anatomy muscles of the face for silhouette and texture.
'Duplicity' was designated as the main concept of the collection. and I got the idea to design the 'transforming garments'.
All 5 garments have a different way of transforming and contained 2 contradicting designs in each garment. It presents the false but successful, perfect, and neat mood before the transformation and the mood that is true but depressed after transformation.
I also constructed half scales and full scales for the solution of capturing garments with a lot of volume and movement in 2D media (images, videos) in Covid.
